Paddy

Gledlands Expecto Patronum

3 August 2005 - 20 November 2012

Paddypants - Pantsman - Hippo-croca-pig-dog

Paddy was our third Newfoundland and came into our life in October 2005. In a short space of time it became obvious that he was a bit special in many ways. He was more agile than any other Newfoundland we ever came into contact with, he was very quick to learn, very responsive and very demanding. The typical laid back gentle nature was nowhere to be seen in PaddyPants.

He spent the first two years of his life hanging off Yogi's scruff and ears, he was never told off by Yogi, the two of them bonded and became the best of friends.

Paddy's greatest moment came in the 2008 World fire-fighters games held in Liverpool, where service personnel from all over the world joined together in the Northwest for the games. One of the events was the 3 day Iron Dog challenge where teams of 'handler and dog' carried out 3 days of agility, water rescue and an obstacle course. Paddy and Les swept the gold medal in the games and we were the proudest Newfie family in the world. After the tremendous success of the games the fire service approached us to use Paddy on the River Mersey as an addition to the search and rescue team - it's as good as it gets for a Newfoundland owner who loves to work their dogs. Paddy appeared on TV on a number of occasions, demonstrating the immense capabilities of the breed in and around water.

For those close enough to us as a family who were fortunate enough to get to know his loving gentle side they shared our good times with him and loved him to bits. It's taken a number of attempts to put a few words together about losing Paddy, each time Les or I have tried, we've ended up in tears and decided to leave it for another week. Not a day goes by where we don't think about him, the great times we all shared, and the immense talent and drive he had.

Introduction and Welcome

April 2008 saw the launch of Lancashire Rescue Bears and the club has grown from strength to strength in a very short space of time. What started out as an "idea" with a small group of around 8 people has now become a National and Internationally recognised Newfoundland group.

Our aim is to enjoy our time with our dogs, and with people who share the same interests in the breed, and by recognising the potential of all members, we want to encourage and support each other in the delights of Newfy ownership!

Our diary of events throughout the year consists of mainly draught work in autumn and winter, and water work in the spring and summer. We take part in various clubs activities as well as organising our own events throughout the year.

Lancashire Rescue Bears can be booked throughout the year for water and draught demonstrations at suitable venues, TV and film work and special occasions. We will also consider helping any charity fundraising by way of Water Rescue’s. For all enquiries and bookings please contact the club Secretary:
