Les works for Merseyside fire and rescue service as a marine rescue specialist on the river Mersey. The job involves search and rescue work in and around the river and is keen to ensure that all dogs and handlers train safe during sessions.
Les, along with his wife Jude, have 5 Newfoundlands, 4 of whom regularly take part in water and draught training. The 5th Newf is an old girl - Jeli who only really enjoys, eating, sleeping and watching the world go by.
Julian is the Manager of a local aluminium door company; his duties include personnel, employment law and health & safety.
In his spare time Julian enjoys music and playing the guitar.
Since joining the club, he has enjoyed working his 2 Newfoundlands – ‘Paddy’ & ‘Missy’ in as many water and draft sessions as possible and learnt a great deal about training Newfoundlands to work. In less than 12 months he has successfully passed Level 2 draught and Section A Water with the 2 Newfs, with the support of partner Sarah.
Julian has outstanding people skills and is a great communicator. He will be a huge support to the club and its members as Chairman.
Jude works as a Consultant in the Aluminum industry. Not quite as exciting as Les but she makes up for it training the dogs at our sessions!
Jude has worked with Newfoundlands for 5 years and in a short space of time has achieved passes at the highest tests in both Water and Draught work. Her main aim is to encourage members to work with and encourage their dogs and enjoy every minute of it. Jude managed the welfare process for one of the Newfoundland breed clubs for 18 months and successfully re-homed around 50 Newfoundlands.
Alison works for the NHS in the Health Informatics Department. She fell in love with the Newfoundland breed at a very young age and it became a goal of hers to own a Bear or two one day.
Alison, along with partner Phil became members of Lancashire Rescue Bears after an amazing coincidence of meeting some of the LRB members on an afternoon walk at the top of Rivington Pike in January 2009. She now has two Newfoundlands; ‘Henry’ a young upstart and ‘Ruben’ a kind old gentleman who was in need of a loving home and went to live with the family in May 2009. As active members of the club the boys get lots of working experience and take part in both Water and Draught work and trials.
Alison’s previous accounting skills and qualifications make her the perfect Treasurer for the club to ensure that appropriate financial records are kept and that the club funds remain healthy.
Peter recently retired from the construction industry.
Having owned a number of different breeds of dogs in his lifetime, Peter fell in love with the Newfoundland breed in 2003 when he acquired his first Newfoundland - Rufus.
It wasn't long before the' Newfie bug' got the better of him and he got his second Newfoundland - Floyd less than 12 months later. Sadly Floyd passed away in 2010 and Peter took on his third Newie - Dillon who is a stunning boy. We don't know how he will perform as a working dog yet but his show potential is immense!
As Vice Chairman and one of the founder members of Lancashire Rescue Bears, Peter wants to support the club in heading in the right direction as it grows.
Rick manages our website which was designed by one of our special Newfie Friends in South Wales - special thanks must go to Kev Clarke who helped us to make this website a couple of years ago.
Rick has two Newfoundlands, Bella and Digby, and works for the Trading Standards Service.
